Met Office Warns of Prolonged Dry Spell if Rain Fails to Arrive Soon

Staff Reporter:
Islamabad: The Met Department has warned that Islamabad and its surrounding areas could experience a prolonged dry spell if the expected rainfall does not arrive today.
Dry conditions are likely to worsen smog levels, raising concerns over public health and air quality.
Rainfall is forecast for Islamabad, the Potohar region, and other parts of the country today and tomorrow. However, if the rain does not materialize, dry weather is expected to persist through the next week.
“Drier weather will worsen the smog situation, further impacting air quality,” stated the Met Office director. The lack of rainfall could lead to increased airborne pollutants, aggravating respiratory and visibility issues in the area.
Currently, air quality in Islamabad remains at hazardous levels, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 258 this morning—36.6% higher than the World Health Organization’s recommended level, according to the Met Department.
