Islamabad: Indian Minister for External Affairs, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, has arrived in Pakistan to participate in the 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG). This marks the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly ten years, as diplomatic relations between the two neighboring nuclear-armed nations remain tense.

Islamabad is hosting the high-profile summit, with heightened security measures in place to ensure the event’s smooth conduct. Jaishankar’s aircraft touched down at an airbase near the capital just before 3:30 PM local time, according to officials from Pakistan’s Foreign Office. Television footage captured the moment as Jaishankar was greeted by children who presented him with a bouquet of flowers.

The Indian foreign minister is one of nearly a dozen international leaders attending the summit, which will conclude with the main session on Wednesday. Despite the presence of high-ranking officials from both India and Pakistan, no bilateral talks between the two countries have been scheduled for the duration of the event.
