“Pakistan’s Cellular Subscribers and 4G Users Continue to Grow in August 2024: PTA Report”

Islamabad:The latest data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reveals a steady rise in cellular subscribers across the country. The total number of cellular users increased from 192.924 million in July to 193.098 million by the end of August 2024. Alongside this, the number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan also saw an upward trend, growing from 136.312 million in July to 137.920 million by August 2024.

The penetration rate of Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) also improved, rising from 56.15% in July to 56.72% by the end of August 2024. However, cellular teledensity—representing the number of mobile connections per 100 people—remained stable at 79% during this period.

Among the key players, Jazz saw a mixed performance. While its 3G user base dropped from 2.897 million in July to 2.718 million by August, its 4G users increased significantly, from 47.993 million to 48.843 million during the same time.

Zong followed a similar trend with a slight decline in its 3G subscribers, dropping from 1.955 million in July to 1.932 million by August 2024. However, the number of Zong 4G users saw a modest rise, going from 37.153 million in July to 37.627 million by August.

Telenor also experienced a small decrease in its 3G subscribers, falling from 1.551 million to 1.519 million between July and August. Meanwhile, its 4G subscriber base grew from 24.929 million to 25.189 million during the same period.

The overall increase in 4G users highlights the continuing shift towards high-speed mobile internet services in Pakistan, even as 3G usage declines across the major telecom providers.
