Govt Prepares to Launch Alternative App to WhatsApp

Islamabad: The government has started preparations to launch the Beep app as an alternative to WhatsApp.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Information Technology was held under the chairmanship of Member of the National Assembly Syed Aminul Haque, in which a briefing was given regarding the Beep app.

Committee Chairman Syed Aminul Haque said that the Beep app was developed two years ago as an alternative to WhatsApp. In the first phase, government employees were to use the Beep application. He instructed the Ministry of IT and NITB to launch the Beep app within three months.

The CEO of the National IT Board said that official communication on WhatsApp is dangerous. Official communication can be done through the Beep app, which has also been praised by the Indian media.

The Additional Secretary of IT said that government officers do not use the designated email by the government. Government employees and officers are bound by rules regarding which information should not be made public. Official government documents are not to be made public, only information that is the public’s right is shared.

Committee member Ahmed Atiq said that government officers should be obliged to communicate through official channels only. Government employees should declare their personal email and social media accounts.
