“Pakistan Hosts Global Health Security Summit to Enhance Pandemic Preparedness”

Islamabad: Caretaker Federal Minister for Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan, announced on Thursday that an integrated strategy to address epidemics would be formulated during the upcoming Global Health Security Summit scheduled to take place in Pakistan. Speaking at a media briefing, the minister emphasized that the summit presents a significant opportunity to bring together international and national experts in the field to share expertise and knowledge for a safer world.

The Global Health Security Summit is slated for January 10-11 in the Federal Capital. Dr. Nadeem Jan outlined the strategic objectives of the conference, which include collaborating with global leaders to ensure equity-based pandemic preparedness financing for low and middle-income countries. The summit aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and rich experiences among member states and experts, with a focus on vaccine equity, patent deregulation, and technology transfer.

Highlighting the importance of the conference, the minister mentioned that it would secure global and regional partnerships with international organizations, aligning health security priorities with global and regional agendas. The aim is to strengthen core capacities through technical assistance and explore opportunities for joint collaboration and pooled funding for health security across the region and the globe. Additionally, sustainable domestic funding for the five-year health security plan for 2024-28 will be a key focus.

Dr. Nadeem Jan noted that top health experts from around the world are expected to attend the Global Health Security Summit. He expressed confidence that hosting this international conference would showcase a positive image of Pakistan and underscore its potential to play a pivotal role in the health sector. The primary objective of the summit is to safeguard Pakistan and the world from diseases, he added.

During the summit, an action plan will be devised to strengthen the health systems of economically challenged countries, and efforts will be directed towards fortifying health systems proactively against potential epidemics. The minister assured that effective measures are being implemented to shield the public from global health threats.
