Strict accountability in police department underway as per vision of IGP Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Feb 25: In line with the vision of the Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas, strict accountability is underway in police department, a police spokesman said on Friday.

According to the details, IGP Islamabad Ahsan Younas organizes ‘Khuli Katcheri’ (open court) in his office on a daily basis for timely and on merit resolution of the problems of citizens.

During the ‘khuli katcheris’ held in the last one week, 10 complaints made by citizens against the police were sent by IG Islamabad to the Internal Accountability Unit for inquiry.

The Accountability Unit conducted a detailed and merit-based inquiry into all the complaints, two of which were found to be factual, in which the ASI posted at Aabpara Police Station was suspended for taking bogus action in the case and further departmental action was initiated.

In the second complaint, departmental action was taken against the constable for misusing his office and threatening the complainant. Moreover, 08 complaints were found to be incorrect.

IG Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas said that corruption in a sacred profession like police department would not be tolerated under any circumstances. After the allegations made in 349 complaints were proved to be true and departmental action were taken against 501 police personnel. These penalties include dismissal, other minor and major punishments.

He maintained that Islamabad police would leave no stone unturned to resolve the public complaints on priority and inculcate friendly police ecology through enhanced cooperation with people.

Islamabad police chief said that officials of Islamabad police have been performing duties with the commitment to ensure protection of the lives and property of the citizens. He said policemen have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and protected the future of the generation.
