Phone tapes of journalists, PFUJ demands judicial inquiry

Islamabad: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has demanded a judicial inquiry into the phone tapping of journalists.
PFUJ President Prince Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi said in a statement that a judicial commission should be formed to investigate the phone tapping, tracking, and monitoring of journalists.
He said that the spokesperson of Prime Minister Shahbaz Gul admitted that the phone calls of journalists are tapped. Shahbaz Gul had said that the phone calls of Asma Shirazi’s Maryam Nawaz have been tracked by the government.
He said that it was the confession of a government member, which was immoral, that an FIR should be registered against this illegal move of Shahbaz Gul.
Prince Zulfiqar and Nasir Zaidi further said that Asma Shirazi’s telephone calls track means and calls of other journalists are also being monitored and tapped, making it a source of journalism is her internationally recognized right.
